The day of the Persian New Year, or Nowruz, is a time of great joy for millions around the world. Persian New Year has been celebrated for over 3,000 years. Nowruz is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Iran and is celebrated by various communities in Central Asia, the Caucasus, and more. The festivities typically begin in springtime, around March 21st, and last for about two weeks. People gather with family and friends to clean their homes, prepare special meals, and set up a beautiful table adorned with seven symbolic items starting with the Persian letter “S.” These items, such as sprouts, apples, and garlic, represent themes like rebirth, love, and patience. Nowruz is a time for reflection, gratitude, and hope for the future, embodying the spirit of new beginnings and the beauty of cultural diversity. Persian people also cook some signature dishes like Tadik which is crispy rice, Choresh which is a kind of stew, Gondi, Kabob, and more. Some families even give their children toys to play with. Another thing people do on this day is buy new clothes and get rid of bad deeds. To conclude, the Persian New Year is a wonderful time to get together with your family and enjoy some great authentic Persian food.
