Valley Torah Wolfpack Makes CIF State history In Groundbreaking Win Against Millikan Rams

In a game for the books, The Valley Torah Wolfpack arose as the first 16th-seeded team in CIF State history to make the Southern California Regional Finals this past Saturday night.

With the Howard Lyon Gymnasium packed with impassioned fans, the Wolfpack won Saturday night’s regional semifinal game against the Millikan Rams by a score of 72-59. VT junior Johny Dan (‘23) led the way with a team-high 24 points along with 13 rebounds. Noam Mayouhas (‘23) pushed the pace of the game and put up 20 points accompanied by 11 points from sophomore Gabriel R’bibo (‘24).

The Rams put up a good fight with 20 points from senior Kamaury Washington, 13 from Donovan Desha, and 11 from Isaiah Wade.

The Rams led a 17-11 lead at the close of the first quarter, and the lead swelled up to 23-13 in the second quarter, but the Wolfpack’s unstoppable 3-point shooting vamped up in the second quarter as they added 24 points, taking a 35-34 lead to halftime. In the third quarter, the Rams’ starting players Washington and Desha pushed their team to a 43-38 lead, but a technical foul by the Rams’ coach paused the Millikan momentum. Valley Torah made both free throws and kickstarted a 15-7 run at the close of the third quarter, giving them a 53-50 lead going to the fourth. Our team made 11 3-pointers in the game and left the gymnasium in incredible spirits.

“At the end of the day, the team’s [Saturday night] win reflects a level of commitment, unity, and hard work unique to the student body at Valley Torah. These traits will serve them well at every level of life.”

–Rabbi Avrohom Stulberger, Dean and Rosh Yeshivah at Valley Torah

This fantastic win places the #16 seed Wolfpack into the Regional Finals against the #2 seed Scripps Ranch, which takes place Tuesday night in San Diego. A win for the Wolfpack would send them to Sacramento to play for the CIF Division 4 State Championship at the Golden 1 Arena – the home of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings. Let’s go Wolfpack, and let’s become the first 16-seed to make it to the state championship game!!
